Ontario cement plant receives international recognition for energy saving success

St Marys Cement, Bowmanville Plant will receive an international award for excellence in energy conservation. The Certification in Energy Excellence is awarded to industry and commercial leaders in energy management who are taking a proactive approach to lowering energy usage. St Marys has reduced its annual energy by 1 million dollars per year.

The award presentation will be followed by lunch and plant tour (weather permitting you will have access to a rooftop, 20 floors above the ground with a panoramic view of Lake Ontario and the Oak Ridges Moraine).

Since its creation in 2006, the Bowmanville Plant’s E=MC2 group has generated over CAN$ 10 million in savings and revenue for the Bowmanville facility. The Bowmanville Plant is the first site in North America to receive certification for the ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard, thus underscoring its commitment towards energy conservation. This standard is built on the same continual improvement model as the other high profile ISO Systems. The Bowmanville Plant uses its certification to ISO 50001 as the framework for establishing the systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance and efficiency while reducing and optimizing energy consumption.
